These are the terms for using Sharpy, the macOS app, and the gateway service the app talks to. Using either one means these terms apply. If you do not accept them, do not install the app.
What Sharpy is
Sharpy is a macOS application that records the text of your frontmost window through the macOS Accessibility API and keeps that record in a single SQLite file on your own Mac, so that you can search and ask questions about your own past. The Privacy page sets out exactly what is captured, what is masked before it is written, and what is never captured at all. It is part of these terms.
Sharpy is not a monitoring product. It is meant to be run by a person, on a Mac that person uses, to remember their own work.
Your data is yours
Everything Sharpy records belongs to you. It lives on your machine, in a file you own, and Assylkhan Sarsenbayev holds no copy of it and claims no rights over it. Nothing in these terms grants a licence to your content.
You can export the whole record to a JSON file, delete any part of it, or erase all of it, at any time, from inside the app. Uninstalling the app does not delete the file; deleting the file is a separate act, and it is yours to perform.
Accounts and paid plans
Everything that runs on your Mac works without an account. Features that call a model — asking questions, the memory pipeline, inline writing, briefs and connected apps — require an account and a plan that allows them. Where a plan is paid, the price, the billing period and the cancellation terms are the ones shown at the point of purchase, and they govern.
An account is for one person. Do not share credentials, and do not resell or relay access to the gateway.
Acceptable use
Do not:
- run Sharpy on a Mac you do not control, or use it to record another person’s work without their knowledge and consent;
- use it to collect information about other people that you have no lawful basis to collect — what appears on your screen may still be somebody else’s personal data, and that remains your responsibility;
- use it where recording is prohibited by law, by your employer, or by an agreement you are under;
- attempt to circumvent the gateway’s rate limits, allowances or device binding, or use the gateway for anything other than running Sharpy;
- use the service to generate material that is unlawful, or to attack, overload or probe the service or anyone else’s.
The software is provided as-is
Sharpy is provided as-is and as-available, without warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. It is not guaranteed to be complete, correct or uninterrupted. It reads text through an operating-system interface that not every application implements the same way, so what it captures will sometimes be partial; the private-browsing exclusion in particular is best-effort and is described that way inside the app. Answers are generated by language models and can be wrong. Check anything that matters against the source, which is why every answer cites the snapshots it came from.
Sharpy is not a backup product. Keep your own backups of anything you cannot lose.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Assylkhan Sarsenbayev is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost data, or for loss of profit or revenue arising from use of the software or the service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Ending it
You can stop at any time. Quit the app, uninstall it, and delete
~/Library/Application Support/Sharpy/; that ends your use of the
software completely. Deleting your account is a separate button in the app, and it
ends the service side — it does not touch the memory on your Mac. Erasing the
memory on your Mac does not delete your account.
We can suspend or end gateway access for a serious or repeated breach of the acceptable-use section above, or for non-payment of a plan. If that happens, everything that runs locally on your Mac keeps working, and your file stays yours.
Changes to these terms
These terms can change. When they do, the date at the top of this page moves, and material changes will be announced before they take effect. Continuing to use Sharpy after that is acceptance of the new terms.
